Amsterdam is the caital of Netherlands with a population of nearly 800 000 people, it is also the largest city in the country. Amsterdam is one of the busiest destinations in Europe and has rich cultural life and numerous touristic attractions combined with a vibrant night life scene. Some of the popular attractions which the city offers are the numerous museums including the Riijksmuseum ( the national museum of Netherlands), Van Gogh Museum and Rembrandt Museum ( both of which contain large collections of paintings made by the famous Dutch painters ), furtermore you can also visit the NeMo ( museum of science as well as one of the largest science centers in Europe) and the Nederlands Scheepvaart Museum ( which is specialized in Holland Maritime hisotry ). Another attractions include the city canals ( grachten ),which are typical part of the landscape of almost every Dutch city. Amsterdam canals run through more than a hundred kilometers the biggest of them is the Kreizersgracht, which is located at the city centre. A third thing for which Amsterdam is famous is that it is the most bycicle friendly city in the world and contains hundreds of kilometers specially designed bycicle roads, thus making the bycicles the most popular means of transportation in the city. Last but not least Amsterdam is particularly famous for its nightlife and has countless number of discos, pubs, bars and restaurants. But when we talk about nightlife the thing we have to mention is the world-wide famous Red-Light District ( De Wallen ) and the Coffe Shops, both of which are integral part of the city's atmospehre.
