The island of Bohol in the Central Philippines is famous for its hills. The hills have made Bohol famous because they are so unusual. They are very regular in shape and appear at first to be man-made. Their uncommon symmetry and their shape leads visitors to often compare them to women's breasts… There are two legends about how the cone-shaped hills of Bohol can to exist. One legend involves a giant who fell in love with a village girl from Bohol. The giant kidnapped the girl. The girl died. The giant cried. The giant's hardened tears formed the Chocolate Hills. The second legend also involves giants - feuding giants who threw rocks (and other things) at each other for years before realizing that they'd forgotten why they were fighting. They stopped fighting, but left without cleaning up their mess. The Chocolate Hills covers an area of about 18 square miles. They are called the "Chocolate Hills" because in the dry season the grass on them turns a deep shade of brown. The Attraction: People go to Bohol for a couple of reasons. Usually they are already in the Central Philippines - Cebu, Negros, Leyte, etc. - and Bohol is part of a larger trip that involves white sand beaches and relaxation. The big attractions on Bohol are the Chocolate Hills (a unique geological area with literally hundreds of round, regular hills) and the tarsier (the smallest primate on earth). It is a beautiful and enchanting natural area with little development.Carmen Resort: Bohol has well over one thousand hills, but only two have been developed into resorts of any kind. Carmen, in the far interior of Bohol, is one of those two locations. The resort there is on the site of the original viewing station, the Chocolate Hills Complex in Carmen, about three miles from the actual town of Carmen. It is around 30 miles from Tagbilaran City. The resort has a restaurant, rooms, a swimming pool, and a overlook deck raised 210 feet above the ground there. The deck is accessed by a set of 214 stairs.Sagbayan Peak: Sagbayan Peak is a mountain resort in Sagbayan, about 45 miles northwest of Tagbilaran City and 10 miles from Carmen's Chocolate Hills Complex. There is an overlook on a ridge there that allows a nice view of the Chocolate Hills and of the sea on Bohol's west coast. The resort sits on five hectares of mountain top. The overlook provides a 360 degree view. The resort houses a restaurant and a children’s park, as well as accommodations for guests. The Tarsier: Bohol is home to the world smallest primate - the tarsier. The nocturnal tarsier's body is only four or five inches long and its tail is slightly longer than its body. "Tarsier watching" is a major attraction in Bohol.Language: Most residents of Bohol speak a local dialect often called "Boholano." Also widely spoken: Cebuano, Tagalog (sometimes called "Filipino," and English…Comments
