Welcome to Munich! In Munich (1.247.934 inhabitants) Bavaria has a distinguished and extremely fine-looking capital. More than 3 million tourists visit Munich every year. In Germany, only Berlin attracts more visitors.Despite of its old age (founded 1158), the city is eternally youthful and multifaceted. Munich can be considered as a vast metropolis and a large village where every foreigner has a feeling to be at home. What does Munich stand for? Probably some people would associate Munich with its traditional beer gardens and of course with the famous Bavarian Beer Festival Oktoberfest, taking place every year in autumn. As a festival town, Munich enjoys an international reputation. For automobile enthusiasts Munich is surely bound up with the BMW works. Sport fans would undoubtedly name the FC Bayern Munich, the Germany’s most famous and successful football club. Cinema-goers would unite Munich with The Bavaria Film Studios, of course. It is worth travelling to Munich – even if just for a couple of days. Munich charms and entices in every season. The best time to visit Munich is of course the summer months. But consider that Munich is extremely overcrowded in summer and you have to reckon with long queues for some of the major attractions. An inside tip: you’d better choose off-season (Middle of April) for your travel. In the true sense of the word the inner city is composed of the important places of interest. If you are getting tired and need a break from all this luxury and magnificence, enjoy Bavarian specialities and freshly brewed beer in one of the cosy small restaurants or in a shady beer garden. Marienplatz can be considered the very heart and soul of Munich. The square is named after a Marian column in its centre. Marienplatz is famous for its splendid building of the New Town Hall erected in a Gothic Revival Architecture Style. Only a stone’s throw away there is the Victuals Market, a unique open-air food market with its finest selection of fresh food and delicacies and a real feast for the eyes and stomach. The Church of St. Peter is the oldest parish church in the inner city. The other famous and popular visitor attraction is the Cathedral Church of our Lady, a landmark for the Bavarian Capital. Climbing up the south tower would be worth the effort. You will enjoy a breathtaking view over the city and the nearby mountains. The state court-brewery in Munich, called Hofbräuhaus, founded 1589, is the most popular Munich’s meeting point. Waiters and waitresses in traditional Bavarian clothing serving Bavarian specialties and fresh brewed bear, music and dancing - plunge into this colorful atmosphere and enjoy it! Strolling through the English Gardens, one of the most favorite Munich’s attractions, is also very exciting. There you can have a picnic, relax and enjoy the beautiful countryside without any trouble. Besides the English Gardens is a real paradise for walkers, joggers, cyclists, in-line skaters. Munich captivates visitors with its thriving nightlife: nightclubs, discos, concert halls, theatres. Are you a party-goer? Or maybe you’d like spend a relaxed evening in a cosy bar? The offer is immense: trendy cocktail bars, fashionable pubs and comfortable wine bars. With a lot of fashion boutiques, street markets, big department stores and shopping centers, shoppers are also well catered for. Maximilianstraße and Theatinerstraße are the main shopping streets with vast shopping areas which offer something for everybody’s taste and wallet from designer label clothes to typically Bavarian souvenirs. And of course there are three big shopping malls in Munich with parking opportunities, catering, entertainment, such as exhibitions and fashion shows.Comments
