Neapel
Naples is definitely a great spot to be. I’ve spent my last holiday in this amazing city and just have to tell you about it. Naples is the third largest city in Italy and got a spectacular location. The famous view over the golf of Naples, including the islands of Ischia and Capri, as well as the volcano Vesuvius, towering over the city, simply must be seen in everybody’s life. The City itself:Over 3000 years ago the historic city was founded by merchants from Greek and Turkey. Under various regimes and phases of foreign rule it finally became the capital of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. There are a lot of sights and historic constructions from this period of time that the city is well known for. Nowadays it is regarded as a world treasure and under protection of the UNSECO. As a modern city it contains a lot of contrast and traditions – therefore it may not only be seen as that ancient city but as a very interesting and popular place, containing something for every one of us.Sights:Duomo This cathedral is dedicated to the city’s patron, San Gennaro. It’s historical aspects are indeed very interesting to have a closer look at, as the it survived many earthquakes and changes of various regimes. On The first Saturday of May and the 19th of September there is a vial of the Saint’s blood brought out which usually liquefies. If not, it’s said, that something bad will happen to the city. The Royal Palace:This used to be the residence of the Spanish Regime. If you are there you have to have a look at the Royal Garden, which is full of beautiful und rare plants, statues and many interesting “secrets” to be found.Church of San Lorenzo Maggiore:This beautiful and old building is to be found in Via Tribunali. If you should happen to be there on Christmas, there will be an amazing life-size nativity scene set up in this church.National Archeological Museum:Not one of these traditional “Sights” but the most famous and important archeological museums on the whole world. With the volcano being near, there are a lot of things preserved from the past. Sculptures and other objects from Pompeii and Ercolano are also to be seen inside.Church of Gesù Nuovo:This is one of the most elaborate and opulent churches I have ever seen. You must see this place, which is full of marble, precious stones and altars.Nightlife:Speaking of the Nightlife in Naples you have to the Chiaia area after 8pm. It will get very crowded and you may easily plunge into the typical Italian atmosphere. There are lots of Bars and interesting spots you can visit at night, such as the “Enoteca belladonna” where you might get the most exclusive wine list, “L’arenile”, a bar on the beach or “Le Bar”, directly in front of the sea.Shopping:Via Calabritto for fashionable clothes and accessories, and the Quartieri Spagnoli for typical handmade products are good locations if you are looking for something to buy.Comments
