Raffles Grill in Singapore

This is the most elegant and upper crust of Singapore's half dozen or so French restaurants. You can find excellent French cuisine elsewhere in the city, but this is the crème de la crème. Not only do you get to enjoy excellent food while the wait staff anticipates your every need, you get to do it in Singapore's most historic five-star hotel. You can escape for less, but you should expect to spend $55 to $65 U.S. per person.

Pros

  • Excellent French food in the heart of Singapore's Historic District
  • Atmosphere of elegance
  • Huge wine cellar with some vintages dating back over 100 years
  • Outstanding service
  • Cons

  • One of Singapore's more expensive establishments
  • Description Located in the Raflles Hotel on Beach Road. Reservations are necessary. Smart-Elegant attire. Open noon until 2pm on weekdays for lunch and 7pm until 10pm Monday to Saturday for dinner.

Part of the charm of Singapore is its history. So if it is within your budget range, eating at the Raffles Grill makes a lot of sense in the context of experiencing Singapore to the fullest. The word "elegance" has worn thin from its use to describe the restaurant. Perhaps "stylish sophistication" can be used as a substitute description. Crystal chandeliers provide the lighting while guests consume pigeon breast or duck liver, lamb or beef, veal or suckling pig. Of course there are also seafood dishes, including lobster, sea scallops and salmon.

The menu at Raffles Grill changes periodically. Look for specials while you're in Singapore. Raffles Grill regularly runs holiday specials that can be very good deals.

While the food and service at the restaurant may be expensive, it is difficult to overstate the quality of a dining experience at Raffles Grill.
