Yankee Stadium in New York City
The New York Yankees have a new stadium. Yankee Stadium opened in April 2009. The $1.5 billion facility is next door to the old Yankee Stadium that served the ball club for 85 years (from 1923 to 2008). The new Yankee Stadium was built on public parkland. The old stadium will be torn door and the land it is on will revert to parkland.Yankee Stadium today is slightly smaller (at least in terms of seating) than the old stadium it replaced. The old Yankee Stadium could seat 56,866 fans when it was closed. The new stadium has room for 52,325 fans - but that number includes standing room. The new stadium’s seats are bigger: 19 inches by 24 inches, compared to the 18 by 22-inch seats in the old stadium. The new stadium also gives patrons more leg room - between 33 and 39 inches of leg room, compared to just 29.5 inches in the old stadium. The new stadium is also a better experience in other ways. The concourses in the new stadium are almost twice the size of the old stadiums. There are more than five times as many elevators in the new facility. The video scoreboard is bigger. There are 56 luxury suites (compared to just 19 in the old stadium). And there are more restroom facilities. You can reach Yankee Stadium from the 161st Street–Yankee Stadium station, the same station that served the old Yankee Stadium, on the B, D, and 4 lines of the New York City Subway. And you can get there by the Yankees-E. 153rd Street station on the Metro-North Railroad that was just opened. There are also buses and ferries to the stadium.Resources on Yankee Stadium
